Secondary electron emission from magnetron targets

چکیده

Abstract Ion-induced secondary electron emission of surfaces occurs in all gas discharges which have contact to such as electrodes or chamber walls. These electrons (SEs) play an important role, for instance, the performance DC discharges, RF and magnetron sputtering discharges. SE generation can be separated into potential (PEE) due neutralization incident ion upon impact kinetic (KEE) electronic stopping penetrating solid. is usually described by Auger processes density states solid, whereas KEE scales with being calculated collision simulations. The measurement energy distribution SEs three metals (Al, Ti, Cu) their oxides reveals occurrence peaks, are not reflected standard models Hagstrum model. Instead, this paper, a model proposed describing these peaks holes created cascade ion. This shows decent agreement. contribution Al Ti very significant, it negligible case Cu. implication distributions discussed.

Theoretical study of the secondary electron emission of insulating targets

We study the electron-induced secondary electron emission of insulating targets by a Monte-Carlo simulation method. The most important collision mechanisms in the energy domain considered are investigated. The usual approximations apparently overestimate the elastic collision rate and empirical corrections are proposed. The self-trapping of the charges is explained by the polarization of the su...

Secondary-electron emission from hydrogen- terminated diamond

Diamond amplifiers demonstrably are an electron source with the potential to support high-brightness, highaverage-current emission into a vacuum. We recently developed a reliable hydrogenation procedure for the diamond amplifier. The systematic study of hydrogenation resulted in the reproducible fabrication of high gain diamond amplifier. Furthermore, we measured the emission probability of dia...

Secondary electron emission studies

Secondary-electron-emission processes under electron bombardment play an important role in the performance of a variety of electron devices. While in some devices, the anode and the grid require materials that suppress the secondary-electron-generation process, the crossed-field amplifier (CFA) is an example where the cathode requires an efficient secondaryelectron-emission material. Secondary-...
